Miranda do Corvo

Miranda do Corvo is a  pretty market town and Municipality in Central Portugal, it has a population of about 13,000  and is in the district of Coimbra. The name translated; means View of the Corvo, the Corvo being a River. The surrounding areas are hilly, forested, and stunningly beautiful, there are rivers, lakes, and any amount of picnic and BBQ spots, to take advantage of.


The municipality is split into 4 different parishes:


  1. Lamas

  2. Miranda do Corvo

  3. Semide e Rio Vide

  4. Vila Nova


The borders of the municipality of Miranda do Corvo, are made up in the following way:

  • Coimbra to the northwest

  • Penela to the southwest

  • Lousã to the East

  • Condeixa-a-Nova to the west

  • Vila Nova de Poiares is to the Northeast

  • Figueiró dos Vinhos to the southeast



There are three rivers crossing the area:

  1. The Rio Ceira

  2. The Rio Dueça is also known as the river Corvo, from which the town takes its name.

  3. The Rio Alheda.

There is a fine choice of cafes and restaurants, even a nice hotel with a swimming pool.


Miranda do Corvo is less than 30 minutes away from the university city of Coimbra, 1 hour and twenty minutes to Porto, and 1 hr and 45 minutes to Lisbon.
