It is a lively market town and municipality of Central Portugal; the population was just over 13,000 at the last count carried out in 2011.

Ansião is well situated. It is very Central, less than 2 hours from Lisbon at 183 km and just over 1.5 hours to Porto at 168 km; Coimbra is 35 minutes at 48 km, with the beach at Figuera da Foz at 49 minutes at 70 km.

The current president of Ansião is António José Domingues of the Socialist Party (PS).

Ansião municipality is bordered by:

• To the north, the municipality of Penela
• To the northwest, the municipality of Soure
• To the east, the municipality of Figueiró dos Vinhos
• To the south, the municipality of Alvaiázere
• To the west, the municipality of Pombal

There is a cultural centre in the town, where all sorts of cultural events occur regularly. Music and theatrical events are the most common.

Ansião is blessed with cafes, bars and restaurants; there are also two pizza places.

The municipal park is lovely and offers something for all ages.

A mid-sized Intermarche supermarket provides pretty much everything you need for day-to-day living.
